The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is a discless version of the PS5 console. That means it won’t be able to play physical, disc-based PS5 games. All your games will be digitally downloaded onto the console. That means you don’t have to get up and insert a disc or worry about the drive going bad plus you’ll save some dough, which are all benefits. But you’ll need reliable, fast internet if you’re downloading these huge games. Also, you won’t be able to play Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. Storage is another limiting factor. At a certain point, you’ll need to manage which games you want to keep on the system and which you want to remove. Frankly, I hate this but this can easily be resolved with external storage. Another factor to consider is that with an all-digital console, you won’t be able to sell your games once you’ve completed them since they reside on your console’s SSD drive. Depending on your situation, the PS5 Digital Edition may make sense for you.

Although you don’t get the cutting-edge gaming experience of the flagship model (Xbox Series X) with higher framerates and fidelity, you get to play the same games without breaking the bank. Sony PlayStation 4 Pro

The PS4 Pro is the answer to the Xbox One X. It may not be as powerful but it’s $100 less expensive and it boasts a better variety of stellar games to experience. In addition to a single-player campaign, fans can expect a free-to-play multiplayer mode. 343 Studios delivers a fresh, modern take of Halo while remaining true to its roots.

In celebration of Mario’s 35th anniversary, Super Mario 3D All-Stars remasters 3 of the greatest 3D Super Mario games of all-time in one limited-edition compilation in physical or digital form. It marks the first time you can play all games in HD. This collection includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. These classic games all feature optimized gameplay for Switch along with a noticable bump in resolution as well as support for modern 16:9 HD displays and Joy-Cons. Unfortunately, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is not part of this collection. Super Mario 64 was the groundbreaking game on N64 that essentially defined the 3D platformer. Super Mario Sunshine from GameCube takes you on a vacation to Isle Del Rey with an interesting water mechanic that’s incredibly fun. And Galaxy from the Wii era is well regarded as one of the greatest 3D Mario games of all-time. A cool bonus is you can listen to soundtracks from all 3 games — even with the screen off. If you haven’t played these titles, it’s an outstanding value with each game offering something refreshing and new. It’s also worth noting this collection will only be available until March 2021.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift ApartRated E10+

The character models are superior and the environments are huger, denser, and more detailed than ever. It showcases what’s possible for games designed around PS5’s ultra high-speed SSD, DualSense wireless controller, and 3D spatial audio. What’s cool? Mid-gameplay, Ratchet and Clank seamlessly and instantly travel through different dimensions — encountering new dangers and planets. The dimensional rifts are not just some gimmick — they’re central to the gameplay and only possible on next-gen. In addition to Ratchet and Clank, players can also choose to play as the new female character, Lombax.

Battlefield 2042Rated M

Set in the future, Battlefield 2042 is a futuristic first-person shooter that looks friggin’ cool with talking jets, tanks, and grapple hooks. Battlefield 2042 returns to a modern setting with a revamped class system revolving around specialists with unique gadgets. It has a huge range of character classes, maps, and weapons. Multiplayer offers support for up to 128 players on next-gen consoles. Massive multiplayer battles look phenomenal. The action looks over the top complete with Battlefield Moments and destructable environments. Battlefield 2042 boasts 2x as many soldiers on the battlefield than before, making it feel like you’re in a real war. Best of all, it has all the chaos fans know and love. Dynamic weather effects like tornadoes and sandstorms can impact the combat. While it’s disappointing that there’s no campaign, it’s a return to BF4 form with familiar features, weapons, and even futuristic twists on equipment and vehicles used in the real world. Its narrative is presented with live-service elements.

DeathloopRated M

Developed exclusively for PS5 by Arkane Lyon, Deathloop is a refreshingly unique game where two rival assassins are trapped in a mysterious timeloop on the island of blackreef, doomed to repeat the same day for eternity. To escape, can you successfully end the cycle by assassinating 8 key targets before the day resets? You’ll learn from your failures — trying new paths, gathering new intel, and discovering new weapons and abilities. The game combines excellent gunplay, stellar story, clever dialogue that translates into a fantastic experience. Optional multiplayer is icing on the cake. The game exploits its unusual structure brilliantly. While you may feel a bit confused initially, just stick with it, you can thank us later. It’s one of our favorite games this year certainly worth every penny.

NBA 2K22Rated E

The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are built from the ground-up to take full advantage of next-gen power and technology. NBA 2K22 heightens the basketball sim’s realism yet again. The presentation and player animations heighten the authenticity of the game. Now you can play in realistic NBA and WNBA environments against authentic teams and players. It really feels like you’re there! The gameplay feels smooth thanks to a consistent frame rate. Overall, it’s a genuinely entertaining basketball experience with the latest roster updates and enhanced game modes. Build your dream team in MyTeam, live out your own pro journey in MyCareer, and use your management skills as an Executive in MyGM.

Madden NFL 22Rated E

Are you ready to take your team to the Superbowl? Nothing’s more fun than playing Madden with your buddies and talking a whole lot of trash. This year there’s Dynamic Gameday, Next Gen Stats Star-Driven AI, and Gameday Atmosphere — exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Madden NFL 22 — that make it feel more like a real NFL game. Modes include: Exhibition, Franchise, and Madden Ultimate Team. Go long! Franchise Mode gets the most notable improvement this year after being mostly neglected. Although the bar isn’t especially high, Madden NFL 22 is the best recent game in the series; however, it’s disappointing to not see a bigger leap across the game on next-gen consoles. It looks and plays better than ever but the quality of the game modes continues to regress, and buggy gameplay make for a frustrating experience. Madden fails to convert the touchdown!

At least 2 additional DLC packs are planned for future expansion. Although it’s relatively safe and lacks mining or crafting spins, Minecraft Dungeons is a fun and charming game with good replayability, plenty of loot, secret levels to discover, and increasingly difficult levels to unlock.
