Hong Kong Toys and Games Fair 2016

Major Trends at the Hong Kong’s annual Toys and Games Fair 2016.

The 42nd annual HKTDC Hong Kong Toys and Games Fair was in full force this week.  We got an early peek at the best toys of 2021. The new trend for toys is centered on innovation and technology – whether on the ground or in the air. KONSEPT VR 32 from KONSEPT was a new VR drone on display at the show that combines virtual reality and barometer technologies. This drone is converging two new technologies that are relatively new. Virtual reality is new and hot in the market and is anticipated to explode in the coming years. KONSEPT VR 32 was honored as the Best of Kidult Toys and awarded the “Hong Kong Toys & Baby Products Award 2016”.

This year’s show featured over 2,030 exhibitors from 41 countries and regions. It’s no surprise that many toys are put to the test at Hong Kong.

There was a swathe of smart tech toys present at the show. Many of these smart toys featured augmented reality (AR) and near-field communication, such as Bluetooth, RFID, and anything else that allows one unit to control another. More and more toys are allowing for control via a smartphone or tablet, as they are now a natural way for kids to play. App-enabled toys have become increasingly more sophisticated – whether it be a drone, stuffed animal, or anything else – as the technology has become more advanced.

The fair is bustling with excitement this year with a lot of electricity in the air. An exciting aspect of the show is in how design has exploded, particularly over the last 10 years. Now there’s more sophisticated design, a sophisticated consumer, and the Hong Kong companies are quick to respond.

The HKTDC Hong Kong Toys and Games Fair is not only about technology – there is also a focus on health in the World of Sports zone. Over 180 premium brands were showcased at the brand name gallery. Collectibles and models are presented at Kid Out World.

The fair is also co-convened with the HKTDC Hong Kong Baby Products Fair, with over 500 exhibitors and over 40 brands featured at the brand name gallery. One highlight of this show was Samico Baby, a Wi-Fi enabled Bluetooth baby monitor. This smart technology allows parents to monitor their baby’s growth and accurately weigh a baby and take their temperature.

From babies goods to toys and games, Hong Kong shows attract knowledgeable buyers from around the world. The Chinese manufacturers are developing product, global manufacturing and introducing products into more markets with higher quality. Hong Kong is now setup for the toy industry as the go-to destination for their business.
