Hasbro’s special crowdfunding project has officially received the green light for production and will be its largest Star Wars toy ever at over 4-feet long. It is anticipated to reach backers on February 18, 2019.
Star Wars fans have backed the barge and now Hasbro has made it official – its first ever HasLab project, Star Wars The Vintage Collection – Jabba’s Sail Barge (The Khetanna) replica, which originally debuted at the New York Toy Fair 2018 – will officially go into production after achieving its crowdfunding goal. Inspired by Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge from Return of the Jedi, the collectible barge will be released early next year and will only be provided to backers of the project. This news is a pretty big deal, as Star Wars fans and toy collectors alike have been clamoring for this for a while, hoping it would eventually become a reality.
Hasbro announced that it has received the minimum required 5,000 preorders to build this massive replica of the Jabba barge, raising nearly $3 million in funding from 5,970+ backers thus far. In fact, it has exceeded its original goal of 5,000 preorders and it doesn’t stop there. Die-hard Star Wars fans and toy collectors willing to shell out $500 have until April 3rd 11:59 PM EST to get in on the action and get their hands on one. Interestingly, if the goal wasn’t met, this concept would never see the light of day. Thankfully, that is not the case for fans who’ve been keeping a close eye on developments.
HasLab is the latest Hasbro initiative that could produce similar collectible toys in the future. Interestingly, this is their first project.
The 4-foot long Jabba The Hutt barge replica features impressive attention to detail. In addition to a highly detailed exterior with impressively detailed decks, it features cool interior details, such as a 2-person cockpit, galley, armory, and lounge.
Reportedly, it will also be Hasbro’s largest Star Wars toy to date. In fact, it will be even bigger than the company’s 2.6-foot 2008 The Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon replica.
For $500 US dollars, Star Wars fans will not only get the biggest Star Wars toy to date, but also will get 3.75-inch figures of Jabba the Hutt and Yak Face, which can be placed inside the barge. This special collector’s bundle will also feature a 64-page companion booklet, which will be released earlier than the barge replica on April 4, 2018.
So what is the release date for this exciting Star Wars collectible replica? Fans who support the project can look forward to receiving their Star Wars Vintage Collection – Jabba Sail Barge on February 28, 2019. Take note that this collectible won’t be available at retail, as it will only be offered through Hasbro’s HasLab website. Time is of the essence so if you want one, you better act before the deadline of April 3rd.
