Cartamundi will begin manufacturing Play-Doh products in the U.S.

Cartamundi will take over manufacturing of Play-Doh products at its U.S. facility in East Longmeadow.

This is actually not a completely new partnership as Hasbro and Cartamundi have collaborated in the past. In fact, Cartamundi has manufactured Monopoly, Risk, Clue, Candy Land, Game of Life and Operation for Hasbro.

According to Chris Van Doorslaer, the CEO of Cartamundi, the company will now manufacture Monopoly, Magic: The Gathering, and Play-Doh for Hasbro.

Cartamundi’s strategy is to grow in sync with its customers via close relationships. The announcement of this new Play-Doh production creates tighter synergy between the two companies.

Cartamundi is planning to hire 20 more employees at its facility after the production line goes live.

Brian Goldner, Chairman and CEO of Hasbro, stated that the company periodically reviews its global sourcing strategy and makes changes in an effort to maximize the execution of its brands.

According to Goldner, the company doesn’t own its manufacturing. Instead it sources product from a worldwide network of partners. This model provides the flexibility to make changes when presented with opportunities, such as in this case. Further, Goldner mentioned that they are able to produce Play-Doh for essentially the same cost worldwide.
