Toy campaigns are promoting the empowerment of girls.
In 2017 we’re seeing more big screen movies with strong female characters and toy companies are promoting empowerment of young girls.
With recent Barbie campaigns, Barbie is empowering young girls to be whoever they want to be. It is getting young girls thinking about their future and they really can be whatever they want to be and it all starts with creative, imaginative play.
With Barbie we’re also seeing new skin tones and new body shapes introduced into the line in recent years. Girls can play with dolls that look similar to them.
Several toy companies and films are promoting the idea of girl empowerment so it appears that 2017 is the year of empowerment for the toy industry.
In 2016, with the release of Suicide Squad we were introduced to Harley Quinn, an independent woman and super villain.
This year we’ll be able to see the latest Wonder Woman movie hit theaters. This exemplifies that girls can be superheroes and super villains, too.
And Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have forged a partnership with Mattel to develop DC Super Hero Girls. This franchise introduced iconic female superhero characters from DC Comics. The line includes characters like Supergirl, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, and Poison Ivy. And Harley Quinn will join the superhero crew this year.
Jakks Pacific announced at the 2017 New York Toy Fair that it will be launching new DC Super Hero Toddler Girls. These new superhero girl dolls look amazing and will stand tall at 18-inches.
These characters and toy lines provide young girls with positive role models and inspire them to be who they want to be. With developments like this in the toy industry, it will motivate and empower young girls to be the best they can be and achieve their true potential while allowing them to engage in creative and imaginative play that will help in their development.
