DC Super Hero Girls will debut in March on television and the toy isle.
With a new animated special based on the DC Super Hero Girls, Warner Brothers and Mattel has announced a partnership with Target to bring related merchandise to stores. Products will include everything from toys to pretend clothes to apparel to accessories to books. Related merchandise will appear on store shelves exclusively at Target in March 2016. There will also be a DC Super Hero Girls App that features animated shorts, games, and more.
Scott Nygaard, Target’s Senior Vice President of merchandising, says that Target is always at the forefront of pop culture and is glad to bring some of the hottest toys for 2021 to its customers. Target is thrilled with working with some of the biggest brands to bring these inspirational role models to children of all ages.
DC Super Heroes will appear exclusively on Boomerang. There will be a feature length 44 minute animated TV cartoon and animated shorts. Animated shorts have already started appearing digitally on the Cartoon Network’s CN app.
Girls already purchase 9% of today’s action figures even though the toys aren’t really marketed toward them. Why can’t girls save the world? Why shouldn’t girls be able to put on masks and capes? DC Super Heroes really change the notion of superhero cartoons with girls starring as the main characters. The line will really relate to girls. It features all of the most popular female superheroes including Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Batgirl. The story’s setting takes place in high school where the superheroes learn to use their super powers.
With a new animated TV program and merchandise, DC Super Hero girls should be some of the best toys for girls when it is launched. Girls and boys play with action figures differently. Boys are okay with killing off the villains but girls want to help them and turn them into friends.
According to Bloomberg, Mattel got some of its most talented female toy designers to design the line for girls. It’s not male designers designing the line for boys. It is a groundbreaking idea especially for Mattel who has been criticized for the way Barbie looks. The toy maker wants to connect to its most important customer: little girls. In fact, with its new leadership, Mattel is launching a new line of Barbie dolls with different body types. There have been female action figures before but they have always been top heavy, oversexualized, and conform to the male fantasy.
Mattel really wanted to get the muscle tone right since the girls are in high school. Still, the super heroes still look like they can save the world. There are going to be 6 inch action figures that are designed especially for girls. The 12 inch dolls will have strong athletic bodies that can stand on their own in various poses. It’s what girls have been asking for.
