My Friend Cayla Doll

Spying concerns cause the doll to be banned in Germany.

My Friend Cayla was banned in Germany due to concerns over a hidden transmitting device.

A German watchdog, Federal Network Agency, has informed parents to disable their doll.

The doll is made by U.S. company Genesis Toys. Reportedly, the doll permits hackers to exploit an unsecure Bluetooth device inside the doll toy to hear and speak with children who are playing with the doll. This certainly raises privacy concerns for parents and their children. Hello Barbie, a high-tech doll, raised privacy concerns across the world.

The president of the Federal Network Agency stated that items conceal cameras or microphones and can transmit data without detection, are invading people’s privacy. And this is clearly the case here with the concealed transmitting device.

Even children’s toys that violate their privacy in this manner are included. Therefore, My Friend Cayla doll has been officially banned in the European nation of Germany. This gesture was an effort to protect the most vulnerable citizens – children – of its society. Again, if your child has My Friend Cayla please disable the doll to protect their privacy.
