Pokémon Day

Celebration marks birth of franchise and anniversary of launch of original Pokémon games.

The Pokémon Company announced plans for a Pokémon Day celebration on February 27. Pokémon Day marks the birth of the Pokémon franchise as well as the 21st anniversary of the launch of the original Pokémon video games in Japan. The first two Pokémon games launched in 1996.

On Pokémon Day, the company will unveil a new Gallery Figures collection at the Pokémon Center. The initial set from this collection includes Pikachu, Mew, Eevee, and Magikarp figures. Each Pokémon character performs its signature attack. Since these figures were designed for the Pokémon Center, this will be the first time fans will be able to catch ‘em all.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Online will begin its Pokémon Day celebration early. For the whole week leading into Pokémon Day, extra Trainer Tokens will be up for grabs on the Bonus Wheel. And on Pokémon Day, players who log into their game will be treated to an extra special Daily Bonus.

In related news, Yu-Gi-Oh! will announce new toys at the New York Toy Fair.
