Introducing Sony PlayStation Classic
Check out the official announcement trailer for the Sony PlayStation Classic!
Following in the success of the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition, Sony unveiled that it will launch a miniature version of the original PlayStation console on December 3rd worldwide – which marks the 24th anniversary of the original PlayStation.
Nowadays retro gaming is huge so this comes as no surprise. Next year Sega will launch a Sega Genesis Mini/Mega Drive Mini, as gamers love playing classic games either to relive their past or to experience the glory days of gaming for the very first time.
Like the NES and SNES Classic consoles, you’ll be able to hold the new PlayStation Classic in the palm of your hand. In fact, the new console is roughly 45 percent smaller than the original PlayStation console.
PlayStation Classic Games Library
The system will come packed with 20 original PlayStation games. Although the full game library has not been announced, Final Fantasy 7, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, and Jumping Flash have been officially confirmed. The full library will likely be revealed closer to launch.
Rather than using CDs, all of the games will come pre-installed on the console with no option to officially add additional games, use your original PlayStation games, or memory cards. It’s worth mentioning there’s a mysterious plastic cover on the rear of the system. The original PlayStation featured a parallel port under that cover. Nothing has been revealed as to whether this is merely cosmetic or if it will allow for future expansion.
How Much For PlayStation Classic?
How much will the Sony PlayStation Classic cost? Sony announced that the PlayStation Mini will retail for $99.99 in the U.S., £89.99 in the U.K., €99.99 in Europe, and ¥9,980 in Japan.
Package Contents
What will be included in the package? The package will include the PlayStation Classic console along with two full-sized, wired PlayStation controllers, and an instruction manual. The controllers will be replicas of the original PlayStation controllers without analog sticks or vibration functionality. The package also includes HDMI and micro-USB cables for audio/video and power. A USB AC adapter won’t be supplied, so you’ll need to either purchase one separately or connect the system into a USB port.
