First boy doll introduced for American Girl doll line.
American Girl recently introduced its first boy doll ever at NY Toy Fair 2017. The boy’s name is Logan Everett and he is a drummer that will come with an appropriately sized drum kit.
Logan Everett is the newest American Girl doll. This is the first time in the company’s history that it will sell a boy version of its upscale dolls. American Girl is owned by Barbie creator Mattel. Logan will be an 18-inch boy doll and it will include a doll-sized drum kit. The new boy doll will go on sale this week.
According to Mattel, it made this move in an effort to gain relevance with kids who play with iPads and their parents. Roughly two years ago, a boy made an appearance in a Barbie commercial. And recall, Barbie received a major overhaul last year. Barbie, the iconic doll whose sales were slipping for four consecutive years, was given different ethnicities and four different body shapes.
In an effort to bolster sales of American Girl dolls, Mattel created a partnership with Toys ‘R’ Us to start selling the dolls. In just the past three months of last year, American Girls sales have increased by 4%.
