We were in New York City at the 2018 Toy Fair on the lookout for the best new toys of the year. With seven football fields worth of toys, it’s like the world’s biggest toy store. Unfortunately, the show isn’t open to the public. From silly poop to nostalgic toys, Toy Fair had something for everybody.

After experiencing many of the playthings first-hand and much deliberation, we’ve hand-picked the Best Toys of Toy Fair 2018, including our award-winning ‘Best of Toy Fair 2018 Toy Buzz Award’ Winners, which stood out as the cream of the crop. Here’s your backstage pass to all of the coolest stuff we saw at New York Toy Fair.

Here are our favorite playthings showcased at Toy Fair 2018. These must-haves were so good that we had to honor them with an award.

Put away the clunky expensive VR headset, Merge is bringing affordable “virtual reality” to the toy market. Blending digital and physical play, the Merge 6DoF blaster immerses you in the game using just your phone and a blaster accessory. It delivers six degrees of freedom, meaning it tracks your position and orientation so when you move, it moves. It’s something you have to experience. The tracking felt surprisingly accurate, and it was a pure blast to play without any heavy headsets or cumbersome wires. There are many AR toys, but hands-down, it’s the best VR/AR toy we have seen and our Toy of the Show.

The MorfBoard is a high-performance deck that transforms in seconds. Using lock and release technology, it allows you to easily switch out the components. It was absolutely wild to watch the demonstration and see the board instantly transform. It’s like a Swiss Army knife for skateboards.

We couldn’t leave Toy Fair without trying out the Nerf Prometheus. This mammoth blaster has a hopper that can hold up to 200 rounds of foam Nerf Rival ammo. It blasts with an advanced acceleration system – 8 rounds per second. The rechargeable battery is perfect for all-day play. Simply hold down the accelerator and hold down the trigger to empty it in just 25 seconds. The only problem? Picking up all the ammo.

Ever dreamt of playing Rocket League in real life? Now you can. Featuring an immaculately detailed Rocket League Arena, this Hot Wheels set allows players to wrestle with each other to knock the soccer ball through their opponent’s goal. The set features app-controlled vehicles and comes with a car charging station. Each car lasts about 15 minutes on a charge. Even at an early stage, Mattel has managed to capture the wacky, addictive fun of the video game.

The original Razor Jetts were cool, but now Razor has stuck a motor in one of the skates and made them even cooler. While they take a while to learn to balance on, they might be the coolest way to get around. With a top speed of 10 MPH and roughly 30 minutes of battery life, we wanted to strap these on and ride all around the Toy Fair show floor.

The cutest part? After fighting the Empire all day, he even can be put to sleep.

Capitalizing on the rescue pets phenomenon sweeping social media, Moose Toys introduces Scruff-A-Luvs. When you unbox this little creature, he looks so helpless and starts out all scruffed up in a ball. If the FIngerlings were not enough, the Fingerlings have been given a giant size plush makeover. This sensor stuffed monkey has all of the fun of the original but now he is soft and huggable. Like the originals, they love giving out kisses. Who doesn’t need a hug?

Meet Boxer, a new interactive artificially intelligent robot companion from Spin Master. Boxer is full of personality and his moods change over time. You can stick your hand in front of him or use his ball and he will chase it around. He can play soccer or even a slingshot game. He even comes with an interactive ball, 10 game feature cards, and a remote control.

Who said little ones can’t be the next Mozart? Rocktopus turns even preschoolers into musicians. The toy includes 15 instrument pods, which can be inserted into Rocktopus. By mixing and matching the different instruments, kids can compose their own music tracks.

Building something is a lot of fun, but tearing it down is even more fun. In Build Or Boom, two players race to complete a structure on a blueprint card. The twist? When somebody completes the structure, they press the dynamite to blow up their opponent’s structure. KABOOM! It’s a “Blast!”

Kami means paper in Japanese. With Kamigami Robots, you build dinosaurs out of plastic Kami paper and use pegs to hold them together. The cool part?
