Hasbro, Disney and Lucasfilm release Star Wars Forces of Destiny toy line, featuring Star Wars female heroines.
Disney and Lucasfilm have partnered with Hasbro on producing a new toy line based on Star Wars Forces of Destiny, Lucasfilm’s first 2D animated short production set to appear on YouTube. Forces of Destiny primarily focuses on the female heroines of Star Wars. These characters include Rey, Jyn Erso, Leia Organa, Padme Amidala, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren. However, other popular Star Wars characters will also appear in the line.
These main heroines will be featured in sixteen short films which will appear on YouTube. The first eight episodes will be shown on the Disney YouTube Channel and the final eight episodes will launch in Fall 2017. The heroines will each be featured in side stories that run in parallel with the traditional Star Wars saga. And voice-acting will be performed by Star Wars actors from both the film and animation. Big-name stars include Daisy Ridley as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn, Ashley Eckstein as Ashoka, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, John Boyega as Finn, Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker, Vanessa Marshall as Here Syndula, and Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata.
The Star Wars Forces of Destiny toy line will features 11-inch ‘adventure’ figures. These adventure figures mesh play patterns from traditional dolls and action figures to create something fresh and new for boys and girls. The six main heroines – Rey, Leia, Padme, Ahsoka, Sabrine, and Jyn – will feature great articulation, allowing for multiple poses and acting out your favorite scenes from the animated shorts.
In addition to these female heroines, key Star Wars characters will also be part of the line. For instance, fans can expect a deluxe Chewbacca figure. Also, there will be multi-packs such as Leia and Wicket, Leia and R2-D2, Rey and BB-8, and Luke Skywalker and Yoda. Even Kylo Ren, the villain, will be represented. In making a decision about which characters to represent, Hasbro knows that boys and girls will want to relive their favorite moments so they focused their attention on key relationships in the animated shorts.
On the role-playing front, fans can expect a new purple Jedi Power Lightsaber that is electronic. We’ll also see Hasbro’s first creation of Rey’s iconic staff.
The Star Wars Forces of Destiny adventure figures are slated for a Fall 2017 release date. Each of the six main heroines will retail for $19.99. Two-pack multipacks (“Figure and Friend 2-Packs”) will retail for $24.99. The Chewbacca Deluxe figure will run around $29.99. Rey Bladebuilders Staff will sell for $19.99 and the Forces of Destiny Bladebuilders Jedi Power Lightsaber will cost about $29.99.
Fans got a sneak peek at the new toy line at Star Wars Celebration’s Heroines of Star Wars Panel. The event was held on April 14 and featured Dave Filoni, Carrie Beck, Ashley Eckstein, and Tiya Sircar.
