Announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Mario Kart-themed Hot Wheels will race into stores next year.
Announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Mattel will be officially releasing licensed Mario Kart-themed Hot Wheels sometime next year.
Mattel and Nintendo have partnered to launch eight die-cast models of your favorite Mario Kart characters in their respective go-karts. The eight characters that will be brought to life will be Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Rosalina, Wario, and Bowser. We must say that they look fantastic and we’re excited for the big launch. Fans will very likely want to collect them all.
Each Hot Wheels Mario Kart vehicle will retail for $4.99, and they are expected to hit store shelves in June 2019. No plans have been announced for a bundle package with all racers.
Presently, these are the only confirmed Mario Kart-themed Hot Wheels vehicles. No official reports have confirmed additional characters, although this partnership could blossom and potentially lead to future additions to the collection. Ultimately, that may depend on how well this initial collection performs.
Reportedly, a Mattel representative confirmed that at launch Mario Kart-inspired track playsets will also be available alongside the Mario Kart Hot Wheels to inspire imaginative play and carry out some exciting Mario Kart-style racing action.
This has us wondering whether we could possibly see a Rainbow Road track come to life. Or what about a track set with a blue turtle that knocks you out like in the game. Maybe they could have a blend of physical and digital play simulating the experience of the Mario Kart videogame but in real life. Now that would truly be a dream come true.
So what do our readers think about the announcement of the Hot Wheels Mario Kart line? Which ones are you most excited about? Sound off in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you.
