Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart Edition arrives at GameStops, followed by a summer release at other retailers along with Power Packs this fall.

There’s exciting news in the world of Monopoly! Hasbro and Nintendo have joined forces to create a new Mario Kart-themed version of Monopoly called Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart Edition. It follows in the success of its predecessor, Monopoly Gamer Edition, the Super Mario-themed version that put a spin on the classic game of Monopoly.

Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart features characters from the Mario Kart franchise as well as a few twists to the gameplay. Game tokens include Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad inside their go-karts. Like the video game, each character will feature its own specific powers and abilities. So, for example, when the player playing with Toad rolls a Power-Up Boost, competing players have to fork over a coin. There will also be a Super Star Space which can give players a leg up over the competition. Similar to its predecessor, the game features coins instead of money and players will be racing to buy properties as well as earn the highest score.

In addition to the Mario Kart-themed tokens and power-ups, fans will recognize familiar properties, such as Mario Kart Stadium, Rainbow Road, Bowser’s Castle, Water Park and more. After passing go not only do players collect 200 Kart coins, but also they have a chance to compete in a race against other players for the Grand Prix card. And you’ll have to dodge banana peels and throw shells just like in the game. And what Mario Kart game could be complete without those blue shells? Just like in the game, players in first place will have to watch their back for those incoming blue turtles.

Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart Edition is available right now at Gamestop stores, retailing for $24.99. Later this June, it will race to other retailers. And in the fall, expect Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Bowser, Rosalina, and Shy Guy tokens to be released as separate Power Packs. In related Monopoly news, this fall, Monopoly fans can get their hands on the new Monopoly Cheaters Edition, which encourages the art of cheating.
