Robot toy sales have risen forty percent at Amazon, driving its toy business to new heights.
According to One Click Retail, an e-Commerce analytics company, Amazon’s robot toy sales have experienced explosive growth of forty percent.
While this may be surprising to some, it may not be all that surprising considering robot toys were identified as one of the major trends this year. In fact, The Toy Association introduced Robotics in the STEM/STEAM mix to create what is known as ‘STREAM’. STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics focused toys. They had previously identified STREAM as a prevailing toy trend for 2017. STEM is already very popular among consumers and it continues to get hotter with every passing year. Amazon soon astutely realized this opportunity and created a STEM Club subscription service tailored to families looking for STEM toys delivered to their door on a monthly basis.
In fact, robotic toys broke into the top 25 toy categories for Amazon in 2016. Total sales for robot toys have exceeded $25 million. That’s a whole lot of robot toys sold! The complete robot toy category is inclusive of vehicles, drones, role-play robots and more.
Amazon has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in consumer tech, selling everything from Amazon Echo and Roomba to Cozmo and GoPros. Therefore, companies should consider targeting their strategies on Amazon. It’s another huge opportunity for businesses that companies would be foolish to overlook.
As an interesting tidbit, Amazon now owns nearly seven percent, or approximately $63 million share, of the $30 billion videogaming market in the United States. Interestingly, it has grown this segment by 11 percent.
