At this year’s Toy Fair in New York, potty humor and gross-out humor dominated the showfloor. Here’s a first look at what to look forward to on store shelves later this year.
Surprise! The toy industry has literally turned to the toilet for its latest creations. Everyone was looking for the must-have toy of the holidays. But who would have guessed they’d stumble across this latest hot trend? Practically everywhere you looked at the New York Toy Fair, you would see a poop-themed toy, snort, farting and more gross-out fun invading our favorite playthings from action figures to board games to collectibles and more.
Earlier this year we revealed the Top Toy Trends for 2018. According to Juli Lennett, a Toy Analyst for The NPD Group, “Poop is a theme. Kids think it’s funny.” Maybe it’s not a complete surprise that toy makers have jumped on this trend quickly, as poop-themed toys were literally flying off store shelves this past holiday season. Games like Toilet Trouble performed very well last year. So if kids are loving it, why not give them more?
Evidently the popularity of the poop emoji may also be to blame. At the same time, its popularity is making it more acceptable to bring home poop-themed toys to the kids. So let’s take a look at some of the most interesting and downright disgusting potty and gross-out humor on display at Toy Fair that your kids will be begging you for later this year.
It’s not Play-Doh but Poo-Dough. Apparently Sky Rocket has spent countless hours and gone through many iterations to craft the perfect piece of poo based on real doggy doo. Using a special mold, you too can create the perfect poo. Yuck! Evidently, it looks like the real thing but smells better.
PooBall is obviously inspired by the game of football with a poo-inspired football creation. It looks like two poo emojis squished together. Kids can engage in fun active play with their PooBall and score a “Flush” down!
Sticky The Pooh
Hog Wild had something called Sticky The Pooh on display at Toy Fair. This squishy toy with eyes looks like a pile of poo and what’s cool is that it actually sticks onto walls and ceilings. We foresee a ton of kids who want to play with this. After all, who could resist their squishy toys? Squishy toys are still hot in 2018 with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Skid Shot 30 Toilet Paper Blaster
New from Jakks Pacific is the Skid Shot 30, a toilet paper blaster. It’s like a Nerf gun but it shoots fresh toilet paper spit wads. Just load it up with water and let ‘er rip. This blaster is capable of delivering blasting action up to 30-feet. Bring on the fun!
Doggie Doo was way ahead of the game and became a massive success well before this whole poop trend emerged. Now it will be in the spotlight once again competing head-to-head against other poo-themed games and playthings. It will be interesting to see how Doggie Doo will stack up against the competition.
What’s That Smell?
This fall WowWee is getting into the growing category of Board Games and Puzzles for the first time with What’s That Smell? It’s the ‘Party Game that Stinks’. It’s a scratch-and-sniff fragrant guessing game that opens up a whole new world of interesting whiffs. Players try to guess the scents correctly to outrank their opponents or suffer the stinky consequences of the Whiff-of-Shame. And, trust us, you don’t want to lose and smell those Stank Cards. Anyone up for ‘Hot Chunky Vomit’? It’s a breath of fresh air – well not exactly ‘fresh’, but you get the point – in the board games category. It’s sure to send your olfactory senses into overdrive!
Don’t Step In It!
Don’t Step In It! from Hasbro Games is a pooped-themed game involving clay-like poop substance. The poop is scattered around the play area. Kids take turns spinning the spinner to determine how many steps to take. The catch? Kids are blindfolded and – you guessed it – they have to avoid stepping in the poop!
Even the squeaky-clean Mattel is getting into the poop action with Flushin’ Frenzy. The new game has a toilet bowl, plunger, and poop character. You can probably guess what you have to do, right? Kids have to use plunging action without having the poo fly through the air. Players take turns to determine how many plunges they get. Eww … gross! It’s just like in the real world!
Plunge It! from Alex Brands is a hilarious, fast-paced, and action-packed challenge game involving plungers, poo, and even farting. The object is to quickly pass around the plunge. When it’s time to plunge the poo, the first player to plunge it wins the round. Now kids can prove to their friends that they’ve got the best toilet plunging skills.
Continuing on with gross-out fun, meet Snot It from the KD Group. Your challenge is to collect the most snot to win. Players wear these wacky nose glasses with dangling slime, representing a runny nose of boogers. Who knew slime could be used in this way? After spinning the spinner, players need to collect snot pieces using just their nose slime. Sounds fun? You betcha!
Dr. Pimple Popper Pimple Pete
Dr. Pimple Popper Pimple Pete from Spin Master introduces the gross-out fun of popping pimples. Well, you don’t exactly pop them, but instead extract them very carefully. The game at its core is very reminiscent of the classic game of Operation. One wrong move and you could pop the mega zit! Do you have what it takes to pop all the pimples without activating the mega zit?!
Pop-A-Zit is another gross-out game involving popping zits. Players will roll, squeeze, and pop zits. Family game night will never be the same!
Pass Gass is a game of chance for kids ages 5 and older. It’s like a game of hot potato. The only difference is that kids pass around Gass the dog until someone gets a whiff.
Pull My Finger
In Pull My Finger from Jakks Pacific, your goal is to not make Mr. Buster, the monkey, fart. Players spin the dial to see how many times to pull its finger. Keep in mind, this monkey eats a carb-heavy diet so with every pull, it could trigger a noisy toot. You never really know when Mr. Buster is going to blow. Whichever player caused the fart is eliminated from the game. What will they think of next?
Flush Force is a new gross-out collectible line targeting boys and their love for gross and disgusting things. It will be competing head-to-head with Moose Toys’ Grossery Gang collectibles. What’s cool about Flush Force is that they come packed in toilet bowls. The unboxing or reveal process is just as big a part of the play experience. So kids pour water into their toilet bowls, shake up the toilet, and pull out all sorts of nasty creatures straight from the toilet. It’s gross-out fun, and boys will love collecting 150 different creatures!
The Grossery Gang Time Wars
The latest wave of Grossery Gang is known as Time Wars. These new collectibles will come in play toilets. Simply add water to the toilets and watch ‘em float to the top. There are a variety of gross characters to collect.
What do you get when you combine the hot trend of squishy toys with the exploding success of collectibles? Poopeez, of course! Poopeez from Basic Fun! are a collectible line of squishy poo collectible characters based on entertainment. They have names like Pooji, Skid Mark, Dumpling, T.P., The Toot Fairy, and Lil’ Squirt to name a few. From the world of Kerplopolis, the toilet-themed world that Poopeez call home, there are about 36 Poopeez characters to collect in all. Who’s ready to get this potty started?
FurReal Friends Ricky, The Trick-Lovin Pup
How can you make the FurReal Pets even more realistic? The latest FurReal Friends Ricky, The Trick-Lovin’ Pup from Hasbro is also getting into the pooping and farting fun this year. After all, that’s a natural process for dogs. Not only will Ricky perform a number of tricks and look and feel incredibly life-like with motions and sounds, but he’ll also be able to use the bathroom.
So as you can see there’s no shortage of potty and gross-out fun on deck this year. There’s poop-inspired fun for practically everyone. Look for these products and more to hit store shelves sometime later this year.
