VTech Shake & Sing Elephant Rattles and Lights & Lullabies Travel Mobiles Recall

VTech announced a recall for two products – Shake & Sing Elephant Rattles and Lights & Lullabies Travel Mobiles.

VTech, the major Chinese toy manufacturer, announced a toy recall for some 280,000 Shake & Sing Elephant Rattles. Reportedly, the ears on the elephant toy can break off, causing a potential choking hazard for young children.

This rattle recall presently only affects Shake & Sing Elephant Rattles manufactured by VTech with a model number of 80-184800. As depicted in the photograph, the rattle features a purple elephant with distinctive colored ears – one yellow and the other blue. It also features a teething ring on the other end of the rattle.

The VTech branding logo is stamped on the elephant rattle toy. Evidently, at least five reports have submitted to the company stating that the ears broke from the rattle with no injuries reported yet.

These rattle toys were sold between November 2015 to November 2017 at various retailers and e-tailers, including Walmart, Kmart, Meijer, Mills Fleet Farm, Seventh Avenue, Amazon.com, and Zulily.com. The rattles in question retailed for approximately eight dollars.

There was also a second product recall announcement for VTech’s Lights & Lullabies Travel Mobiles. The affected model numbers are 80-503000 for the blue version and 80-503050 for the pink version. Model numbers are located on the battery compartment door.

Apparently, with these particular models, their clamps are susceptible to breakage, which may ultimately cause injury to your infant inside the crib. Six reports have come in to VTech regarding the clamp breaking, with no injuries reported thus far.

These mobile devices were sold from February 2017 to November 2017, retailing for around twenty-five dollars and were sold at Walmart, Kmart, Amazon.com, and Zulily.com. The pink version of the mobile was sold exclusively at Amazon.com. Approximately 37,000 units were sold in the US with 4,800 sold in Canada.

Customers owning either of the aforementioned products – the Shake & Sing Elephant Rattle or Lights & Lullabies Travel Mobiles – are advised to cease use altogether, and reach out to VTech for either a complete refund or replacement.
