Lightseekers has been officially launched in the US and UK.
Tomy and PlayFusion have officially launched their latest product, Lightseekers at retail in the United States and United Kingdom. ToysRUs and Amazon will carry Lightseekers. Lightseekers represents the next level of connected play. Many of us may have heard about or seen toys-to-life toys from Skylanders and Disney Infinity to Lego Dimensions, Amiibo, and the upcoming Starlink.
Lightseekers is the next generation of toys-to-life and they are calling this evolutionary product ‘connected play’, moving beyond the world of toys-to-life. It offers a mobile and tablet gaming experience, 7-inch smart connected action figures that interact with the game, and there is even a trading card component. The game is an action adventure role-playing game, and it can be downloaded on the App Store, Google Play, and Amazon’s App Store.
The first thing you may notice about Lightseekers is that there are no portals to be seen and you don’t need a home console like a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch. In designing the next generation of toys-to-life, they challenged the status quo and questioned whether there ever was really a need. Instead each action figure has its own mini computer system integrated inside that makes it a smart connected figure. The cool part is that the smart figure and game can communicate in real-time, which offers a truly unique experience. So, for instance, you can move the character around and your motion in the real-world will be magically translated in the virtual digital world with a flight pack accessory. It makes for quite an interactive and engaging experience that truly feels next generation.
Another cool feature of the system is that as you progress through the game, you can improve accessories that can be added or switched around on your smart figure. For instance, if you add a weapon or accessory to your smart figure, it impacts the game and makes new abilities and adventures accessible. The flight packs are the coolest because they allow players to use the figure to control the action in the game.
TOMY and PlayFusion are proud of finally bringing this product to life after two and a half years of development and they are excited about finally launching it at ToysRUs. When we first saw Lightseekers demonstrated at the New York Toy Fair 2017, we instantly knew it was going to be something special and we recognized it as one of the best toys of Toy Fair 2017. Since we strongly believe this connected play toy has a ton of potential and represents the next big step in the toys-to-life market, it made our elusive Top Toys for Christmas 2021 list. The good news is that the team announced that more exciting things are to come for Lightseekers in the coming months. The future of connect play is here … are you ready to experience it?
